Yellow Scotch Bonnet, (Big Sun) Heat Level is 9-10 Very closely related to the Habanero chilli, the Scotch Bonnet (or Bahamian, Bahama Mama, Jamaican Hot or Martinique Pepper) is just about as hot. It has a similar apple-cherry tomato flavour. Like the Habanero, it is spherical, although rather more squashed in shape and it is smaller, 3.25-4 cm in diameter. Native to the Caribbean. Red Habanero, 300,000 + SHU. Heat Level 10+++ The fruit shape and size are much like the regular Orange Habanero, wrinkled 1 inch to 1-1/2 inch long peppers with a tapered end. These peppers turn a brilliant red upon maturity and grow in abundance on 3-1/2 foot tall plants. Hot enough to suit even the most dedicated heat seeker. The Habanero is one of the world's hottest and most renowned chillis. For the uninitiated even a tiny piece of Habanero would cause intense and prolonged oral suffering. Underneath the heat is a delicate plum-tomato apricot, apple-like flavour. This bright red version of Habanero is one hot pepper. (Capsicum Chinense) |

Red Scotch Bonnet Chilli Pepper, Heat Level is 9-10 The Scotch Bonnet is not the same chilli as the Habanero they are of the same species but the Scotch Bonnet is not a Cultivar. The Scotch Bonnet has a different shape - one which closely resembles a Scot's bonnet - so it is very easy to differentiate the two. It grows mainly in the Caribbean islands while the Habanero grows mainly in Latin and North American. The flavour of the two, however, is very similar as is their heat Level. The Scotch Bonnet Red is 1 to 1-1/2 inches in diameter, is irregularly shaped. Some say the flavour is even more tropical and fruity than the Habanero. It is great for salsas and sauces. Thai Dragon, Heat Level 7 Red Thai Dragon chillis are 3 inches long and 1/2 inch wide and about 6 times hotter than Jalapenos. Two foot Thai Dragon pepper plants are high yielding, with a strong well-branched habit to support the heavy fruit set. Each plant can produce 150 to 200 chillies! Very good flavour. Chiltepin, Heat Level 10+++ The Chiltepin/Tepin can be over wintered and re grown the following season. Referred to the "mother of all hot peppers" the chiltepin is even hotter than the Habanero. These tiny chillis can be dried and crumbled on top of food or added to soups, stews, salsas, chorizo or any dish where some heat and flavour is appropriate. Chiltepin are hard to find and hand harvested. Chiltepins are one of the few crops in the world which are harvested in the wild rather than cultivated.
